About the Department

The Community Development Department is responsible for planning and regulating the physical development of McLainberg to implement the City's General Plan and maintain the quality of life for residents and businesses. The Department consists of four divisions: Planning, Building, Code Enforcement, and Economic Development.

Planning Division

Processes land use applications including zone changes, conditional use permits, variances, design review, subdivision maps, and environmental review under CEQA. Maintains the General Plan, Development Code, and Zoning Map.

Building Division

Accepts building permit applications, performs plan checks, issues permits, and conducts field inspections for all construction within the City.

Code Enforcement

Investigates complaints and enforces provisions of the Municipal Code related to property maintenance, zoning violations, nuisances, and unpermitted construction.

Economic Development

Supports business attraction and retention, administers the Downtown Business Improvement District, and coordinates the McLainberg Business Resource Center.
